While I was at the drug store today I was looking at sulfate free shampoos and conditioners I noticed L’Oreal Paris has a few different ones that all say sulfate free, some for color treated hair some for blondes and then some for non color treated hair. But after taking a closer look in the ingredients I noticed they all have Sodium laureth sulfate. Which is Sodium laureth sulfate, or sodium lauryl ether sulfate, is an anionic detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products. SLES is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. Wikipedia.
In order for a product to be sulfate free it can’t have any form of either sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate if it has sulfate in the ingredients then it’s not sulfate free period. So on that note just because it says it’s free does not mean it is. And one should be careful when buying such hair products. Read the fine print. I of course didn’t buy any but I was curious as to if it really was sulfate free or not.
